Getting Married
Important information
After the love of you life has proposed, your next step is to think about the wedding ceremony. What could be more romantic than celebrating the big day in the French countryside at a chateau. The Loire Valley has a number of wonderful chateaus for small or large wedding parties.
Gentle rolling hills, formal French gardens and a gentle summer climate permit a perfect outdoor celebration; not to mention the fine local cuisine and rich Loire Valley wines and sparklings.
Who doesn’t want to make the extra effort and go to a wedding in a France! But how do you do it? First there’s a lot of paperwork so be prepared. Allow yourselves three months lead-time.
Here are couple of websites that provide information necessary to present to the marie (France’s local council)
Americans see the practical section :http://www.beyond.fr
UK citizens see http://www.headdonconsulting.com.
Also ensure that one of you have lived in France for more than 40 days prior to the wedding. You will need to marry first at the local marie and can then choose a church wedding (anywhere in the EU) so twice the fun!
You’ll need to ensure you well aware of all the different marriage contracts and their benefits and pitfalls (La communauté, La communauté réduite aux acquêts, La participation aux acquêts, La separation de biens) while these can all be changed you do have to wait two years.
And then of course, you must ask yourself, the big “if” question; divorces can taken place in any EU but all the paperwork will be in French and divorces in France may not benefit you. So you can divorce elsewhere but there’ll be translation costs.
So once, all that’s been sorted here’s some contacts to plan your enchanting wedding!
If you don’t want to do it all yourself here’s some professional organizers, they’ll assist you with legal and there’s often great advantages in paying a coordinator besides the better deals they might secure for you, you can are dealing with one person rather than several different suppliers.
Who needs stress on their wedding day, wedding planners can actually save you money and allow you to just enjoy the whole event!
